The car features original factory black paint with tan vinyl interior and original tan cloth convertible top, the original Fuel-Injected 1600cc Engine and 4-Speed Manual Transmission. A great opportunity to acquire a highly original 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible with a fascinating history and remarkably low mileage. Retaining its original factory Tuxedo Black paint and original drivetrain, this late-production air-cooled Volkswagen represents the kind of preserved survivor that collectors can appreciate. The car was previously traded to a Volkswagen dealership by the original owner with approximately 22,000 miles, and then was reportedly used as a showroom display vehicle until 2016 before being sold at Mecum Kissimmee in 2025 for $44,000 and then again to the current owner at the Mecum Indy 2026 Auction. The Original Volkswagen Engineering features power that comes from the original fuel-injected 1600cc air-cooled flat-four engine that sits in a very clean and detailed engine compartment and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The original drivetrain and factory Black exterior distinguish this Beetle from examples that have undergone repainting, restoration, or mechanical modification. The Super Beetle features revised front suspension incorporating MacPherson struts, along with a redesigned front body section and a larger front luggage compartment than the standard Beetle. These refinements improved everyday usability while preserving the model\'s familiar shape and character.The black paint on the car is in overall excellent condition as is the tan manual convertible top which still looks brand new. All of the original chrome trim and badging is intact and in excellent condition as well. The tan vinyl interior is also in excellent original condition with no rips or tears, Beautiful original dash, wrapped steering wheel and Clarion AM/FM stereo. Only minor issue is that the control to tile the passenger seat doesn’t currently work and will need attention. Trunk compartment is very clean and solid with vinyl mat and houses the original Volkswagen BN2 gasoline-powered auxiliary heater. Undercarriage of the VW is clean and solid. The car rides on Dunlop tires mounted on the factory original steel wheels. This is a desirable late-production convertible as it represents the culmination of decades of development of one of the world\'s most recognizable automobiles. Its air-cooled engine, simple mechanical layout, friendly styling, and open-top configuration have earned it a devoted following among Volkswagen enthusiasts. This 1978 Super Beetle Convertible is particularly significant as one of the final iterations of the classic American-market Beetle.
